THE PRESIDENT: I want to thank the members of the United States Senate for joining on a very important discussion, and the discussion was how to get a comprehensive immigration bill out of the United States Senate.
I will report to the American people that there is a common desire to have a bill that enforces the border, a bill that has interior enforcement -- in other words, a bill that will hold people to account for hiring somebody who is here illegally -- but a bill that also recognizes we must have a temporary worker program, a bill that does not grant automatic amnesty to people, but a bill that says, somebody who is working here on a legal basis has the right to get in line to become a citizen.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/04/images/20060425-8_d-0218-250h.jpg (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/04/images/20060425-8_d-0218-515h.html) I thank the members, both Republicans and Democrats, for taking on this really hard, hard assignment. It's important that we reform a system that is not working. It's important that we uphold the values of the United States of America. It's important that we treat people with dignity.
And I strongly believe that we have a chance to get an immigration bill that is comprehensive in nature to my desk before the end of this year.
And again, I want to thank both the Republicans and Democrats for the spirit of hard work. I particularly want to thank Senator Kennedy and Senator McCain for taking the lead on this important bill on the floor of the United States Senate. And I assured the members that I look forward to working with them as they try to get a bill out of the Senate by Memorial Day and into conference.
Thank you all.

Hi,
My I-140 will be approved shortly in premium processing and I'll be applying for 3yr H1 extension. There is a chance that I may get laid-off soon and I wanted to know if I can change the jobs while my H1 extension petition is pending with USICS. My current H1 will expire in June'07.
Sorry, if I am asking a question that has already been addressed here. I tried to browse the forum but could not find anything.
Thanks,
Natika

Hi All,
I filed my I-485 in month of August 2008. I have FP appointment for me and my son on 31st Dec 2008, and for my wife on Jan 2nd 2009. Can my wife just walk in for finger print on 31st along with me and my son ? or she only need to go on 2nd Jan ?
Will appreciate your response.
I read one IV post where somebody did the say. They allowed wife's finger print also. You can always try!

Immigration Law from Houston Immigration Lawyer - Annie Banerjee Has Just Posted the Following:
The DOL introduced a new Prevailing Wage system which will centralize everything. Previously each State's Workforce Agency gave those Prevailing Wage. Obviously there were discrepancies in how each SWA operated causing problems with DOL filings.
However, DOL introduced this new system of centralized Prevailing Wage determination with no computerized system of filing. We have to mail in our request to the DOL. Then the DOL will take forever to come up with a Prevailing Wage. The DOL has advised employers to file the Prevailing Wage 60 days prior to advertising for a PERM, since the ads expire in 6 months. This is strange because the DOL went computerized much earlier than the CIS did. Why could they not have a faster computerized process BEFORE centralizing the whole process? Was this then intentional?
This will slow down businesses, and filing of immigration. Similarly in July of 2009 the DOL significantly slowed down the LCA filings for H-1Bs. Which makes me wonder if DOL is slowing down things as a protectionist measure which caters to socialism? Is this the death of free enterprise, and business at the speed of 21 Century? It was another Democratic President and Congress that passed the AC 21 to speed the process up about a decade ago.

Unless you know the outcome, you never know.
Just be candid and talk to your employer. Sometimes they don't even know this as diff ppl in HR handle and interpret cases differently. I would talk to my employer.

My fiance lives in Mexico and I live in the United States. We are planning on getting married this summer. As soon as I return, I'm planning on beginning the process so that my future wife could come to the United States to live with me. We plan on getting married in the Catholic Church, but we have doubts if that type of marriage is a valid one for this specific situation. We just don't want a delay in the process simply because it was a religious marriage and we want to be with each other as soon as possible. My question is: Is a religious marriage valid for this situation? Which one would you recommend: Having a civil marriage or a religious marriage in Mexico?

There is a small but noticeable difference in quality going from 6MP to 10MP. Since I went from 2.7MP to 10MP, I haven't experienced this first hand, but I'm told that the extra 4MP generally allow you to print about one size larger than you felt comfortable with before (hence, if you only accepted 11x14's from 6MP images, then with the 10MP photos you'll probably be happy with 16x20's).
Pixel peeping aside, I'm glad that you're happy with your new gear. Have fun (as I'm sure you will)!

Greetings,
I have a pending 485 application under EB3 category through my wife's application. However, recently her employer applied for the EB3-EB2 change since she already qualifies for EB2. I understand that the priority date remains the same. In our case the priority date is Feb 05. I wanted to know what will be the process going forward. Currently the EB3-EB2 application is on the PERM labor state. Once that gets approved does it mean that our I485 will be adjudicated immediately since for EB2 the priority date has already gone past ours (feb 05)? Or we will need to then apply for another I-140?
If anyone knows the process of EB3 to EB2 transfer can he/she kindly post it?
Thanks
k

If he has his Green Card and as long as it is not conditional (meaning a 2 year green card based on marriage), he should be able to apply for citizenship just like any other green card holder after satisfying all the citizenship requirements (listed in the link below):

Is it true that H4 spouse, who do not have SSN are not eligible for tax rebate if while filing a joint tax return for 2007 ITIN is used for spouse.
It seems ITIN is given to illegal aliens too and hence it is not possible for IRS to determine which ITIN holders are legal and which are illegal. Thus they are not going to give tax rebates to ITIN holders.
My wife is on H4 and has a EAD/AP. Should I apply for SSN to receive the tax rebates? But since the tax rebates are based on 2007 tax return I will have to file the tax return using her SSN to get the rebates.
Also will SSN affect her H4 status if EAD is not used?
What do you guys think?
